She will receive $20,000 over four years towards her college education. Beneficial Bank will award the other five winners with $5,000 each towards college tuition.

Founded in 2003 in honor of the bank's 150th birthday, the Beneficial Scholars Program is open to college-bound high school seniors in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania, and Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties in New Jersey.

Beneficial asked students to submit an essay about the most important issue facing their community and how they would respond to this concern. More than 425 area high school seniors from across the Philadelphia region entered the competition, offering ideas ranging from gun violence to environmental sustainability to civic engagement.
