PHILADELPHIA, Pa., February 22 2010 – Beneficial Bank, a full-service bank that specializes in serving the financial needs of the greater Philadelphia region, today announced that it has donated more than $10,000 to the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter for the organization's Haiti relief efforts. The funds were collected from Beneficial Bank employees and customers between January 22 and February 5.

"We are amazed by the amount of support our employees and customers have dedicated to aid individuals in Haiti," said Gerard P. Cuddy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Beneficial Bank. "We were emotionally affected by the events in Haiti and were driven to take action to help a nation in need. I am proud to be part of a company that is not only dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the local neighborhoods it serves, but to providing assistance worldwide during a time of crisis."

Beneficial Bank mobilized an organization-wide effort to collect donations from customers and employees, including holding an Employee Jeans Day and placing donation boxes at teller lines in all 65+ offices throughout the Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey regions. On Friday, January 22 more than 400 Beneficial Bank employees wore their jeans to work in exchange for a $5 donation to the Haiti Relief Fund. All participating employees also wore stickers that read "Ask Me Why I Am Wearing Jeans?" to demonstrate their support for the relief effort. Beneficial Bank collected a total of $8,070 from employees and customers through the jeans day and in-office donation boxes. Beneficial contributed an additional $2,500 towards the total donation.
