Beneficial Launches 2008-09 Scholars Program
The essay contest is now completely online and awards $50,000 in scholarships to Philadelphia area college-bound high school seniors
In keeping with its commitment to education, Beneficial Bank announces its sixth annual Beneficial Scholars Program essay contest for the 2008-09 academic year. This year, students can learn about the competition and submit their essay at www.beneficialscholars.com, the new online home of the Scholars Program.
The essay contest awards $50,000 in scholarships to eleven college-bound high school seniors. This year, Beneficial Bank will award one Grand Prize scholarship of $20,000, five one-time Scholars Winner prizes of $5,000 each, and five one-time Honorable Mention prizes of $1,000.
The essay contest is open to college-bound high school seniors in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania, and Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties in New Jersey. Applicants must have plans to attend an accredited higher education institution in the fall of 2009.
Participating students are asked to submit an essay proposing an idea or initiative to encourage young people in their community to save or be financially responsible. The essay topic gives students an opportunity to reflect on our country's financial values given the current economic climate. Entries must be submitted by January 31, 2009.
A distinguished judging panel of area business and community leaders and educators will select the eleven winners. Essays are judged on content, clarity and creativity. Winners will be announced in spring 2009.
